UK Meetings sector not yet matching needs of executive assistants

The peak UK professional body for the meetings and events industry The Meetings Industry Association (MIA), has partnered with Executive PA Media to find out more about the needs of executive assistants when organising and booking corporate events. Of the £25billion directly spent on business events in the UK most comes from corporate events, which personal assistants organise more of than any other professional group.

There is still some work required by the Meetings industry for it to fully meet the needs of corporate buyers, who now represent a significant proportion of its client-base. Most meetings professionals understand that EAs play a key role in their organisations’ meetings and events, but are unclear of the exact nature and scope of their role.

MIA Chief Executive Jane Longhurst said “This insightful research demonstrates the crucial and significant influence executive and personal assistants have when selecting venues and suppliers for their organisation’s events. As a sector, it is clear more work is required to meet the needs of time poor executive assistants”

Russell Peacock, Chairman Executive PA Media said  “I’d like to thank Jane Longhurst and her team at Meetings Industry Association for their involvement in shaping this research. I believe the findings are going to be extremely beneficial to their members to attract and retain corporate business, and helpful to our members who work with them when organising their business events.”

The full report has been published to coincide with the first day of the Meetings show and contains some interesting insights such as, desired destinations, final decision-making processes in corporate organisations, pain points for executive assistants when dealing with meetings professionals, number of events held by businesses and outlook for future business events.
