Dawn Davies at Selfridges 2011 Hamper launch
10th November 2011, Executive PA Magazine readers invited to meet Selfridges’ Head Sommelier at an exclusive reader event.
Having started out in the drinks industry working in a pub whilst at university, Dawn soon moved on to her first job in London working for Tetsuya Wakuda at Mju where female sommelier Nobuko Okamura inspired her to learn more about wines.
Since then, Dawn has been Head Sommelier at Zuma, Boxwood Café and The Ledbury, all before joining Selfridges in 2007.
Dawn is responsible for sourcing all wines, spirits and beers in the Wine Shop at Selfridges, as well as devising the wine lists in most of the restaurants at Selfridges’ four stores.
An average week can entail more than a few tastings with suppliers and Dawn’s biggest enjoyment of the job is finding new products and discovering new wineries. In addition to this, and when she’s not travelling overseas to suppliers or wine fairs, Dawn supports the shop floor staff by interacting with customers and overseeing fine wine sales.
She says she is passionate about ‘the little guy’ but recognise the importance of the big brands and has also discovered a new passion for spirits, especially rum and tequila.
As well as this hectic but enjoyable role, Dawn is in her second year of the Master of Wine course.
