Being under 5ft8in means you could be taking a hit in your pay packet, according to the latest research.
A study, from Long Tall Sally, has revealed that women who are 5ft8in or taller are more than twice as likely to earn up to £5,000 more than their shorter counterparts. When looking into the reasons why this could be it’s telling that around 20 per cent of taller females viewed their height as a sign of “empowerment and authority”, compared with only five per cent of those women who are 5ft7in or shorter. Taller women are in a position which means they look down when speaking to shorter colleagues which can give the illusion of confidence and authority - this may then become a self-fulfilling prophecy, with taller women feeling more confident and so being more successful in the workforce. Perhaps this reinforces why so many of you were outraged when the TUC wanted to ban heels from the workplace.
