Under new plans unveiled by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, fathers would be entitled to three months’ paid paternity leave, and up to a further three months unpaid leave. The move is a generous increase from the current two weeks new Dads are able to take, and will help tackle gender inequality in the workplace. Under the proposed new plans new mothers who chose to return to the workplace after six months would be able to transfer the remaining six months of their maternity leave to their partner.
Under the new plans, which are part of the Work and Families Act 2006, mothers who return to the workplace after six months would be allowed to transfer their unused six months of maternity leave to their partner. But on the topic of parental leave it’s not all good news as the Government also plans to reduce paid maternity leave from a year, to nine months.
