The future of travel may be very different from what it is today, if Airbus heeds the ideas of tomorrow’s potential aircraft engineers. The company launched a global competition for new, greener concepts in air travel and the ideas, if implemented, could change the way we fly. Suggestions include a windowless cabin to aid eco-efficiency; changing the fuel used to either electric motors or harnessing solar power; fleets of planes using the V formation adopted by migrating birds to reduce energy consumption; and some of the materials used in the cabin to be made from castor plant natural fibres.
