Despite a rash of alarming headlines a study conducted by DDI has found that UK interviewers are the least likely to check up on potential candidates via social networking sites. The study found that 12 per cent of interviewers in the UK would check out a jobseeker’s Facebook, Twitter or MySpace account, compared to German interviewers, who are twice as likely to do so. The study also revealed that few people actually consider what they write on these sites, as less than a third of those questioned felt their chances of securing employment would be affected by their networking online. What do you think? Could social networking harm your chances of landing a position? Or should you be free to write what you wish in your own time, without worrying you’ve jeopardised your career?
