With the recent media coverage of a credit crunch crisis hitting the City, will support staff be affected on a wider scale??There is some apprehension among support staff says Erin Williams, manager of the permanent division at leading secretarial recruiter Crone Corkill, “and we have received an increase in enquiries from candidates asking whether there are still jobs out there.” But Williams believes the hiring impact of the credit crunch to date is limited mainly to the banking sector. “In the City, there are many other types of companies that are still recruiting - particularly those associated with risk and those who tend to do well in a downturn – management consultancies, insurance companies, legal firms and actuarial firms.?This can only be goods news for support staff.?She adds: “Candidates should remember to present their CV in terms of the specific skills they can bring to a secretarial role. Those who can show flexibility on location and who have kept their skill sets up to date will find it relatively easy to move between sectors, particularly those who can demonstrate competencies such as teamwork, planning and initiative."
