According to new research more than three quarters of UK workers have stolen from their previous or current employers. And if you think we're referring to the odd Biro or Post-It note then think again -?the figures show that potentially over ?432m worth of company property is stolen from the workplace every year including laptops, confidential personal data, TVs and even in one case the office pet! Recent online research from www.salgadoinvestigations.com revealed that 78 per cent of respondents had stolen from the workplace at some point in their lives. Individuals confessed to pilfering items worth on average ?920 throughout their careers – and that’s not including any office stationery. When asked “what would deter you from stealing an item?” 38 per cent of those questioned admitted that video monitoring would be the main deterrent. This was followed by 19 per cent claiming that law involvement would be the one thing to dissuade them, with just?two per cent worried that their mum might find out.
