Coming into force on 6th April the Corporate Manslaughter Act will mean that for the first time companies can be convicted of corporate manslaughter – for when management failures lead to a breach of the duty of care towards employees and which results in death. The new legislation also extends to work-related stress or depression and so it’s important to reassess your company’s Health & Safety strategies to ensure you stay on the right side of the law. Workplace stress is the UK’s second biggest occupational health problem in the UK and according to the World Health Organisation depression is the fourth most common cause of suffering and disability. Not only do you need to ensure that policies are up to date but you need to be sure that they are being implemented correctly and that your company is doing all it can to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of its staff.
