Set to open in a year's time Heathrow's new ?4.3billion Terminal 5 is on track and budget, announced airports operator BAA and British Airways recently.

The country's biggest free-standing building has undergone a six-month period of testing and is due to be opened on March 27 2008. The impressive glass structure has been designed by Richard Rogers, and will have taken six years to come to fruition. The new terminal is expected to be used by 30million passengers a year, and will help ease the burden on the current terminals which handle 68million passengers a year, despite being designed to cater for just 45million. The first passengers to arrive at T5 will be on a BA morning flight from Hong Kong, with a further 40,000 to follow during the rest of the day.
