Air Astana is a joint venture between the government of Kazakhstan and BAE Systems and is the only airline in Kazakhstan to be approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency. The airline was registered in 2001 and began flight operations in May 2002. Since then, Air Astana has increased its fleet from three to 24 aircraft, employs more than 3,000 people worldwide and has expanded its network to 23 domestic and 31 international routes. Air Astana has a completely modern fleet comprising entirely of Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Fokker Aircraft and have ordered a further four Airbus 320, two Airbus A321 and two Embraer E190 aircraft to further develop the regional network.

Air Astana has services from Heathrow (Terminal 4) to Almaty, Frankfurt to Astana and Amsterdam to Atyrau.
